Tom Veechio gave up a well-paying job as a truck driver to take a lower-paying job as a taxi driver so he could spend more time with his son, Brandon, 4, and so his wife, Janet, could go back to work. Janet suffered from postpartum depression after giving birth to Brandon. She wanted to go back to work, but Tom had a day job, and if they both worked during the day, Brandon would have to be cared for by babysitters. Brandon didn’t want his son raised by day care and a babysitter, and he couldn’t afford day care. So instead, he took a lesser-paying night job that has him working from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. He did this out of love for his son.
A Special Education
Caleb Andrew, 4, is a boy with cerebral palsy who attends Jowonio School in Syracuse, NY. Jowonio is an inclusive preschool that brings together students with disabilities and regular students in the same environment. Through this joining, students with disabilities can feel normal, and normal children are given a perspective into the lives of the disabled.
